Rehabilitaion of the Flat Tops

  • 13 photos for sale Buy a Photo
  • In 2002, 23,040 acres of the Flat Tops Wilderness burned after the forest was weakened by natural elements over decades. Beetles attacked the spruce and fir trees in the 1940s and 1950s, much like pine beetles are attacking our lodgepole pines now. Left dead and dying by the beetles, wind swept across the land knocking down the damaged trees, creating a perfect burning environment for the lighting that hit July 17 and 18, 2002.
